(1) BIRDING WALK (3 Hours) Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
The Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary and Wildlife Centre offer superb riverine habitat for Schalow’s Turaco, Hildeblandt’s Francolin, African Broadbill, Red throated twinspot, White-backed Night Heron, Half-collared Kingfisher, African Broadbill, Black-throated Wattle-eye, Mountain Wagtail, Golden Weaver, Red Backed Mannikin, Brown Crowned Tchagra, long tailed Wagtail and Golden Weaver.
Itinerary - 06.30 to 09.00 or 15.00 to 17.30 - We collect you from your hotel / residence and take you to the Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary [Government side]. Follow one of the numerous trails through the endemic Brachystegia trees to the river, then follow along this path. Stop for Tea / Coffee and a delicious muffin at a suitable spot. Return to the vehicle at about 08.45 and you will be dropped back at your hotel by 9 am.
Prices include transport from and to your hotel in Lilongwe, services of birding guide, 1 X bottle of water, tea/coffee and a muffin.

(2) LILONGWE CITY TOUR (5 Hours) Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
Lilongwe, known as the garden city, is developing at a tremendous speed and our city tour includes areas of interest like the New Parliament buildings, the Kamuzu Banda Mausoleum, War Memorial, the Tobacco Auction floors, the Wildlife Centre, Lilongwe Market and the vendors market.
Itinerary - 09.00 or 13.00. We collect you from your hotel / residence and drive with brief stops at the mausoleum, war memorial and past the New parliament building to the tobacco auction floors (when the auction floors are closed we will visit the Kumbali cultural village). On arrival at the floors you will be briefed and shown the auctioning procedure, before heading back into town and visiting the Lilongwe and vendors market. After this we stop and enjoy a drink at the Wildlife centre followed by a tour of the facility. You will be dropped back at your hotel by approx. 13.00.
Prices include transport from / to your hotel in Lilongwe, services of guide, entrance fees, 1 X bottle of water and a soft drink at the wildlife centre.
(3) DEDZA POTTERY & ROCK ART (half or full day trip) Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
This tour will take us to Dedza – 1 and ½ hour drive South of Lilongwe. Dedza Mountain looms majestically over the plains and being on the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment offers outstanding views of Lake Malawi. Our visit will include an excursion into the foothills where we will see ancient rock art as done by the Bushmen in the late stone age, then we continue to Dedza Pottery craft and coffee shop, well known for its cheesecake served in a delightful garden setting. Lunch will be enjoyed in this peaceful setting and after we will drive up Dedza Mountain to take in the wonderful views, before returning back to Lilongwe.
Itinerary – Depart Lilongwe at 08.30 - Arrive back in Lilongwe at 17.30.

(4) KASUNGU Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
This tour takes us North from Lilongwe towards Kasungu town, where we branch off and continue to the National Park. Kasungu Park is one of Malawi’s least known parks, but hosts an impressive array of wild animals. The different habitat, coupled with dambo’s, streams , hills and a dam offers protections for Lichtensteins Hartebeest, Sable, Kudu, Reedbuck, Impala etc as well as Elephant, Buffalo and various predator species. Lifupa Lodge, in the heart of the park overlooks a dam of the same name where an endemic group of Puku have taken up residence, after migrating from nearby Zambia. The park is not blessed with big concentrations of game, however the varied scenery interspersed with animals make this an enjoyable day out.
Itinerary – Depart Lilongwe at 08.30 – Arrive back in Lilongwe at 15.00.

(5) LAKE MALAWI & KUTI COMMUNITY WILDLIFE PARK Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
This tour takes us East from Lilongwe to Lake Malawi, with a side visit to the unique Kuti Community Wildlife Park. This non profit making facility, run by volunteers, offers protection to wild animals and supports surrounding communities to benefit directly from protecting their fauna and flora. Kuti offers the opportunity for a uniquely Malawian wildlife viewing experience. Animals found include – Nyala, Zebra, Waterbuck, Sable, Warthog, Impala, Wildebeest, Ostrich. Kudu, Genet, Bushbuck, Porcupine, Duiker, etc. From Kuti we proceed for a ½ hr to Senga Bay and arrive at the very comfortable Livingstonia Beach Hotel before lunch. Here time is at your leisure. Watersports and lunch are not included and can be purchased directly from the hotel. Depart Senga Bay no later than 16H00 to arrive in Lilongwe by 18H00.
Itinerary – Depart Lilongwe at 08.30 – Arrive back in Lilongwe at 18.00.

(6) CENTRAL REGION Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
A day trip visiting the delightful coffee and pottery shop in Dedza, then driving down the scenic Golomoti Pass to Mua Mission where we have a look at the cultural museum, then head to the lake where a couple of hours are free to relax and explore the unique shoreline, before returning back to Lilongwe.
Itinerary –We collect you from your hotel / residence at 07.30 and drive 1& ½ hrs to Dedza, after a cup of coffee and looking at the pottery, continue to Mua Mission, down the very scenic Golomoti pass. An hour is spent here then we head to the lake where you have a few hours free to enjoy the warm water and sunshine. We aim to have a late lunch at the Lake. Depart back to Lilongwe mid afternoon. ETA in Lilongwe is late afternoon and we drop you back at your hotel or guest house.
Prices include all road transport, services of guide, bottled water and a snack for journey, entrance fee into Mua Mission. Price exclude coffee and cakes at Dedza, lunch, personal spending money, drinks
(7) NTCHISI FOREST Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
Ntchisi Forest Reserve is one of only two remaining montane forests in Malawi and is also popular for its birdlife. The beautiful dense tree cover is criss-crossed by small streams with scatterings of moss-covered rocky outcrops. The floor of the forest is a profusion of wild flowers in the hot season. Ntchisi Lodge is situated on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the lake and rift Valley.
Itinerary – Depart Lilongwe at 08.00 and drive for 2 hrs to Ntchisi. On arrival, prepare for a 2 /3 hr walk into the forest., Return to the lodge for a delicious lunch. A rest after the meal, then depart back to Lilongwe early afternoon, returning mid afternoon.
Tour prices include transport to Ntchisi return, services of qualified Land and Lake Guide throughout, Forest walk, snack. Tour prices exclude lunch which may be ordered and paid for directly at the lodge [Allow $17].
(8) LAKE MALAWI Book or enquire with Barefoot Safaris
A day trip to Lake Malawi where you have time to relax on the white sandy beaches and swim in the clear water before returning back to Lilongwe.
Itinerary –We collect you from your hotel / residence at 08.00 and drive 1& ½ hrs to Senga Bay. Here we stop at either Safari Beach Lodge or Livingstonia Beach Hotel where you are welcome to relax on the beach, swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling or for a small fee use some of their watersport equipment, For the more adventurous, a boat trip to lizard Island can be arranged. Lunch at the hotel or lodge, then return to Lilongwe in the late afternoon and we drop you back at your hotel or guest house.
Prices include transfer Lilongwe , Lake return, services of guide, entrance fee to use hotel / lodge facilities.
