We are proud of our links with the local community and dedicated to supporting worthy projects, such as the upgrading of rural schools, building houses in local villages and providing medical assistance for local people. We also support anti-poaching activities and established the PAW conservation project to save a real piece of African wilderness at Mwabvi in southern Malawi. Mwabvi Game Reserve is one of nine National Parks and Reserves in Malawi. At 135 sq. kilometres it is the smallest land based reserve, and its location at the southern most tip of the country makes it the remotest. The improvements made in health and life expectancy in Malawi, as elsewhere, put an increased pressure on the natural environment for both agriculture and fuel. Loss of the wilderness in turn leads to loss of natural resources that would otherwise have economic, especially tourism, and social benefits. More importantly, the wilderness is part of our environment and culture, and if we lose it we lose both past and future identity. |

Walk for wildlife, walk for Malawi, walk for yourself. This is your chance to see this beautiful country for yourselves. In October 2008 we are running the "Ordeal" - 5 days of walking to the "Lake of Stars" itself, Lake Malawi. If you think you're up to the challenge, you can find more details are on PAW’s Mwabvi Ordeal page. |

PAW is an organisation formed to protect and restore the Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve in Southern Malawi. Its aim is to work with local people and the Government of Malawi and integrate social, economic and environmental solutions to create a sustainable future for the reserve and improve local community livelihoods. PAW is not only a conservation project - money that we raise is put into the development of projects (and infrastructure) that will benefit the local people of Mwabvi and allow them to take control of their own livelihoods through businesses and education relating to eco-tourism. Our projects fall into the following areas: · Protection and restoration of the wildlife reserve · Eco-tourism · Small Enterprise Development · University twinning scheme · Secondary school education programme · Volunteer programme · Fundraising Our aim is to: · Preserve the existing wilderness · Bring it back into balance by reintroducing wildlife · Work with the local people to involve them in decisions · Create long term local employment and encourage new businesses · Promote the social and economic benefits of conservation · Introduce responsible and controlled eco-tourism · Promote the education of conservation in the UK and Malawi
